Fogged windows are a common problem and the most economical solution is to replace the glass with a new insulating glass unit. Insulating glass, often referred to as “double pane” or “Thermopane” glass, is two (sometimes three) panes of glass separated by a spacer bar. Surrounding the exterior perimeter of the spacer bar is a double layer of sealant around the perimeter of the unit. The spacer bar holds desiccants which absorb moisture in between the panes of glass.
The most common causes of spoilage are seals that are exposed to water, expansion and contraction due to climate changes and old age. Once the seal has been damaged, moisture filled air starts to infiltrate the unit and the desiccants become saturated and unable to absorb any more moisture. Therefore, condensation becomes apparent.
Usually not! Most window manufacturers fabricate their frames to allow for glass replacement. Glass replacement is a more cost-effective option to whole window replacement. Our insulating units come with a 10-year warranty. Call us for an estimate!
